Focus Features has acquired North American distribution rights from Pathé to the drama Suffragette, directed by BAFTA Award winner Sarah Gavron from a script written by Emmy Award winner Abi Morgan, for a Fall 2015 domestic release. The cast of the U.K. film includes Academy Award nominees Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter, BAFTA Award winner Ben Whishaw, British Independent Film Award winner Anne-Marie Duff, Golden Globe Award nominee Brendan Gleeson and three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep. Focus has also acquired the distribution rights for Latin America, India, South Korea, and most of Eastern Europe including Russia; Universal Pictures International will release the film in those territories. Focus CEO Peter Schlessel made the announcement today.
Ruby Films' Alison Owen, an Academy Award nominee as producer of Elizabeth, and Faye Ward are the producers of Suffragette, which is directed by Sarah Gavron (Brick Lane) from a screenplay by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady). Fox Searchlight Pictures announced that Thomas Vinterberg's Far from the Madding Crowd has begun principal photography in the UK today, September 16th. The film stars Carey Mulligan (The Great Gatsby, Drive), Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone, Bullhead), Michael Sheen (Midnight in Paris, Frost/Nixon), Tom Sturridge (On the Road, Pirate Radio) and Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises, Killer Joe). The script was written by David Nicholls, author and screenwriter of One Day and Starter for 10. Allon Reich and Andrew Macdonald of DNA Films are producing with Christine Langan of BBC Films executive producing. The film will shoot on location in Dorset, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and London.

Robert Pattinson and Carey Mulligan have signed on to star in the true crime drama Hold On to Me for Indian Paintbrush and director James Marsh (Man on Wire, Project Nim).
The project is based on the true story of a young couple who decide to kidnap their town's richest man and hold him for ransom. When they decide to bury him alive, their plan begins to fall apart. Robert Pattinson will play Jimmy, the woman's longtime lover who is not involved in the crime.Read More
