Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo Revealed in ‘Doctor Strange’

Here he is folks! Chiwetel Ejiofor has been revealed in costume as Baron Mordo on the set of Marvel's Doctor Strange. The studio is usually quick to release official photos of its characters before the paparazzi beat them to it. But that doesn't seem to be the case with this latest Phase 3 adventure. Neither Disney nor Marvel have officially confirmed that shooting has started. But as you can see by the below image, the action is really starting to heat up in Nepal.

Throughout this past week, we've gotten to see a number of images from the Nepal set of Doctor Strange. Then yesterday, a video arrived that showed Benedict Cumberbatch as the haggard Dr. Stephen Strange as he makes his way through the city, on a quest to find the Ancient One. Though we have no official information in regards to what was actually being shot, a cloaked and hooded figure was seen trailing our hero. Was it actually our first look at Baron Mordo? Could have been.

Chiwetel Ejiofor Is Baron Mordo in ‘Doctor Strange’

We knew Chiwetel Ejiofor was joining Marvel's Doctor Strange, but until now, we didn't know whom he was playing. Today, Deadline has it on good authority that the acclaimed actor will play long-time enemy to the title character, Baron Mordo. He will star opposite Benedict Cumberbatch, who is signed on as the mystical superhero, and Tilda Swinton, who is taking on the role of the Ancient One.

Baron Mordo was first introduced in the Marvel comic books in 1963, appearing for the first time in Strange Tales. A Transylvanian nobleman, Karl Amadeus Mordo was a student of the Tibetan sorcerer known as the Ancient One, but later plotted to kill his teacher. A plan thwarted by Doctor Strange. The Ancient One, in turned, trained Strange to become a formidable enemy for Mordo, and the villain became one of the Sorcerer Supreme's greatest foes. Mordo has powers similar to Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange, with vast magical abilities derived from his years of studying black magic and the mystic arts.

However, it isn't known if that story will be told in this Marvel Phase Three adventure, following an August report that revealed Doctor Strange will not be an origin story, starting with the character already established as a superhero.

According to The UK Times, the actor has recently been seen hanging out in J.J. Abrams' office, but its not a personal call.
