First Look at David Spade in ‘Joe Dirt 2’

Announced back in mid-October, cameras started rolling yesterday on the Crackle digital feature Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser, with star David Spade releasing the first photo from the set dressed in full costume.

While no other cast members have been confirmed, David Spade revealed in a Reddit AMA back in April that Robbie (Kid Rock) and Clem (Christopher Walken) from the original Joe Dirt have been written into the script. It isn't known if they have signed on to reprise their roles.

‘Joe Dirt 2’ Is Happening on Crackle with David Spade

Crackle is poised to make history with the announcement today that production will begin next month on Joe Dirt 2, the first ever made-for-digital sequel to a major motion picture. David Spade returns in the eponymous role as Joe Dirt, re-teaming with Fred Wolf to co-write and executive produce the sequel to the Columbia Pictures cult favorite. Wolf will also direct. Joe Dirt 2 will be produced by Happy Madison Productions. Production begins mid-November on location in Louisiana-the backdrop of the Baton Rouge based original feature film. The feature is scheduled to be released in 2015 on Crackle and all Crackle platforms.

The long-awaited sequel to the Columbia Pictures cult favorite comedy will pick-up where the first film left off, following the comedic misadventures of the mullet-clad, lovable redneck Joe Dirt.

David Spade participated in a Reddit AMA this morning, where he revealed that a sequel to the 2001 comedy Joe Dirt is in active development.

David Spade went onto confirm that fan favorites from the first film, Christopher Walken and Kid Rock, are in the script and will hopefully return to reprise their characters. He also explains how the original is one of his own personal favorites."I loved the Joe Dirt movie. It's the one I hear about the most, right behind Tommy Boy. I grew up in Arizona, and the co-writer, Fred Wolf, grew up in Montana, and we'd see guys like that all the time. Shirts off, carrying gas cans, questionable life, never knew where they were going or coming from, and I grew up with my brother Harry, a cage of rattlesnakes in his room, and guns, and craziness, in a small copper-mining town outside of Scottsdale, AZ.
