David Strathairn Joins ‘November Criminals’

Academy Award nominee David Strathairn will join Ansel Elgort, Chloe Moretz and Academy Award Nominee Catherine Keener in Sacha Gervasi's November Criminals for Lotus Entertainment. Based on an adapted screenplay by Academy Award Nominee Steven Knight from Sam Munson's novel, the film begins production in Rhode Island and Washington, D.C. today.

Beth O'Neil is producing alongside Erika Olde of Black Bicycle Entertainment and Lotus Entertainment, who is also handling international sales. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions acquired the film for the English-speaking world, as well as numerous international territories. Lotus Entertainment's Ara Keshishian along with SPWA's Executive Vice President Joe Matukewicz are overseeing production.

‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2’ Announced with Richard Gere and David Strathairn

Fox Searchlight Pictures President of Production Claudia Lewis and Participant Media Executive Vice President of Production Jonathan King announced today that production on The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 has begun in India. John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) has returned to helm the follow-up companion feature to the 2012 film from an original screenplay by Ol Parker, from a story by Parker and Madden. Blueprint Pictures returns producing the film.

The cast has reunited for the film including stars Judi Dench (Evelyn), Maggie Smith (Muriel), Bill Nighy (Douglas), Dev Patel (Sonny), Celia Imrie (Madge), Ronald Pickup (Norman), Penelope Wilton (Jean), Diana Hardcastle (Carol), Tena Desae (Sunaina) and Lillete Dubey (Mrs. Kapoor). Additional cast making their debut include Richard Gere, David Strathairn and Tamsin Greig. Blueprint Pictures' Graham Broadbent and Peter Czernin will produce the film, with Participant's Jeff Skoll serving as executive producer. Fox Searchlight Pictures has worldwide rights and will co-finance the film in association with Participant Media and Image Nation Abu Dhabi.

Syfy Renews ‘Alphas’ for Season 2

Syfy's new super-powered original drama series Alphas, featuring a team of superhuman investigators, will be returning for a second season, it was announced today by Mark Stern, President, Original Content, Syfy, and Co-Head, Original Content, Universal Cable Productions. Syfy is ordering 13 episodes of the breakout scripted summer hit from series producers Universal Cable Productions and BermanBraun Television to air in 2012.

Alphas debuted on July 11th and became Syfy's most-watched original scripted series premiere in two years. To date, premiere episodes which air Monday nights at 10PM ET/PT have averaged 3.3 million total viewers (including all available Live +7 DVR data).

Actor David Strathairn has joined the cast of Lincoln for DreamWorks Pictures and director Steven Spielberg.

David Strathairn will portray William Seward, the Secretary of State in Abraham Lincoln's administration. He was also an ardent abolitionist and considered a pivotal member of the President's cabinet. Daniel Day-Lewis is playing President Lincoln, while Sally Field is portraying his wife. Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hal Holbrook, James Spader, John Hawkes, Tim Blake Nelson, Bruce McGill, and Joseph Cross have already signed onto the cast as well.
