Duncan Jones Exits ‘Fleming’ Biopic to Direct ‘Warcraft’

The big screen World of Warcraft video game adaptation Warcraft is finally ready to start shooting in early 2014. This has caused director Duncan Jones to jump ship on his other upcoming project Fleming, a biopic on James Bond creator Ian Fleming.

Duncan Jones was desperate to direct both projects, but scheduling became too much of an insurmountable obstacle. He would have directed Fleming first, but Warcraft producers were unwilling to wait an additional two years for their long-gestating project to get off the ground.

‘Warcraft’ Concept Art Revealed with New Story Details

Director Duncan Jones and visual effects supervisor Bill Westenhofer showcased their upcoming video game adaptation Warcraft at BlizzCon 2013 yesterday. Four concept art images have been released, featuring Draenor, home of the Orcs, Dalaran, the magical city floating in the sky, Ironforge, the Dwarfs' home city, and Stormwind, seat of the Alliance. While no cast members have been confirmed yet, Travis Fimmel has been offered a leading role, with Colin Farrell and Paula Patton in talks for other roles. We reported in August that production begins in January at CMPP Studios in Vancouver.

After years of delays, Legendary Entertainment is finally moving forward with their highly-anticipated World of Warcraft adaptation, bringing Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) on board to direct.

Back in August, after two years of little to no movement on the project, Legendary hired Charles Leavitt (The Seventh Son) to write the screenplay. Legendary is keeping the story line under wraps, but they are obviously confident in the material, since the studio hopes to start production this fall for a 2015 release.
