At this time, it isn't even quite clear if Peter Parker will be the focus of the Spider-Man reboot, with some rumors claiming that Sony and Marvel are looking for a non-white actor to play an African-American or Latino version of the character. Its possible that the new movie will revolve around Miles Morales, a half-Latino, half-African American teen who assumed the Spider-Man identity in the comic books. However it plays out, right now, it doesn't sound like Dylan O'Brien is up for the part. But then again, he could just be playing coy.

Earlier tonight, we reported that Marvel and Sony plan on sending Peter Parker back to high school in the new Spider-Man that is being planned. At this time, Sony, who will have the ultimate say in who is cast as the new web-crawler, are already targeting two young actors to play the role. In contention are Logan Lerman and Dylan O'Brien. The plan is to get someone younger than the 31 year-old Andrew Garfield, who previously played the role in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Logan Lerman is 23 years old, but can still pass for high school age. Dylan O'Brien is the same age, and is equally youthful in his appearance. Sony, who has ultimate say over what exactly the new Spider-Man will be, plan to keep Peter at Midtown High School a little longer, as the main thrust of this new series will focus on Parker's awkward relationships with fellow students, and how he deals with bullies while at the same time protecting the city he loves as a crime-fighting vigilante in a superhero costume. Both Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man and Marc Webb's 2012 The Amazing Spider-Man started Peter off at Midtown High, but in both series, he graduated and moved onto life outside of high school. It sounds as though this new iteration may keep him in classes for more than one movie.Read More
Earlier today, we reported that both Marvel and Sony are eyeing much younger actors to play the new Spider-Man, since The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 star Andrew Garfield will not be back to play Peter Parker. Variety now reports that "a number of actors already have been mentioned as being considered for the role," including Dylan O'Brien (The Maze Runner) and Logan Lerman (Fury). The site does add that Sony and Marvel have not approached these actors quite yet, since their first order of business is to find a new director to replace Marc Webb. But it is confirmed that this Peter Parker will still be in high school.
Peter will head back to Midtown High School, the same setting that was used in both Sam Raimi's Spider-Man starring Tobey Maguire and Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man movies starring Andrew Garfield. Both of those incarnations of the franchise had Peter graduating from High School and moving out on his own. The studio's plan is to spend more time at Midtown High, showing more of Spidey's awkward relationships with fellow students, along with his crime-fighting exploits out of school as the Spider-Man franchise continues on into the future.Read More
