‘Cinderella’ Poster: Helena Bonham Carter Is the Fairy Godmother

Disney started rolling out a series of character posters for Cinderella yesterday, with the first one-sheet featuring The Wicked Stepmother, played by Cate Blanchett, and stepsisters portrayed by Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera. Today we get a new poster featuring Helena Bonham Carter as The Fairy Godmother, which was shot by acclaimed photographer Annie Leibovitz. This godmother, disguised as a kindly beggar woman, steps up to change Cinderella's life forever, after her stepmother refuses to let her attend the ball to meet the charming Kit (Richard Madden), a dashing prince who she met in the woods.

The story of Cinderella follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella's father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother's dying words and to "have courage and be kind." She will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her.

‘Great Expectations’ Hi-Res Photo Gallery

Your high school literature teacher can finally trash her DVD of 1998's Great Expectations, which starred Gwyneth Paltrow as Estella, Ethan Hawke as Pip (renamed Finnegan Bell for whatever reason), and Anne Bancroft as an updated Miss Havisham. A new version of this classic Charles Dickens novel is on the way, and it bypasses the hip, updated nature of the last remake for something more akin to the actual book. Directed by Mike Newell (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), this new Great Expectations promises to be the most accurate representation of the written word ever brought to the screen. We have a hi-res photo gallery from the movie featuring stars Ralph Fiennes (Magwitch), Helena Bonham Carter (Miss Havisham), Holly Grainger (Estella), and Jeremy Irvine (Pip), and if nothing else, it looks like they got the costumes right.

Great Expectations was released in 2012.
