‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Lands Writer Jeff Nathanson

Disney is looking to set sail with Pirates of the Caribbean 5, hiring Jeff Nathanson (Tower Heist) to work on the screenplay. Johnny Depp is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Back in January 2011, five months before Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was released, we reported that Terry Rossio was brought on to write the Pirates of the Caribbean 5 screenplay. Ted Elliott, who co-wrote the first four movies with Terry Rossio, did not return to work on the script. It isn't known if Jeff Nathanson is starting from scratch, or if he is re-working Terry Rossio's draft.

Jeff Nathanson Set for ‘Men in Black III’ Rewrites

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Men in Black III started shooting today in New York City, and that screenwriter Jeff Nathanson has come aboard to write a new draft of the screenplay.

The shooting that has started today will focus on the present-day material, while the February shoot will primarily revolve around the 1969 storyline. Jeff Nathanson was brought onto work on the time travel elements of the story, where Will Smith's Agent Jay goes back in time to 1969 and meets a young Agent Kay, who will be played by Josh Brolin. Tommy Lee Jones is reprising his Agent Kay in the present-day storyline of the sequel.
