Jeffrey Wright talks Beetee, working with Amanda Plummer and more in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, in theaters November 22

One of the many, many things I enjoyed about The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (CLICK HERE to read my full review) is not only how much they show us much more of Panem, but also the influx of new characters. One of the several new faces this time around is Beetee, played to perfection by Jeffrey Wright. A former winner from District 3, Beetee won his unspecified Hunger Games by constructing an electrical trap that killed all of his competitors, skills that prove to come in handy during the Third Quarter Quell, where past winners are summoned back into the battle arena to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the games.

11 ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Hi-Res Character Portraits

All 11 The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Capitol Couture Portraits have been released in hi-res, featuring Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) on their Victory Tour for the 74th Annual Hunger Games. The celebration doesn't last long, as they soon learn they are going back in the arena for the Quarter Quell, where they will face-off against past winners of the tournament, including Beetee (Jeffrey Wright), Johanna (Jena Malone), and a possible new love interesting for Katniss in Finnick (Sam Claflin). Helping to ensure the games go as planned are returning characters Caesar (Stanley Tucci), Effie (Elizabeth Banks), Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), Haymitch (Woody Harrelson), and the evil President Snow (Donald Sutherland). And of course, we have Gale (Liam Hemsworth) sitting on the sidelines, watching as Katniss is forced to declare her love for Peeta. Here they all are, gathered for their portraits on the eve of the historical 75th Annual Hunger Games tournament.

Beetee is an 'exceptionally smart' older victor from District 3 who makes an alliance with Katniss, Peeta and Finnick (Sam Claflin) during the 75th Annual Hunger Games, which pits past winners against each other. Beetee's plan to harness lightening and electrocute two other contenders is used for a better cause that results in the temporary paralysis of Katniss on the playing field.

‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Adds Jeffrey Wright as Beetee

Lionsgate has announced that Jeffrey Wright has been cast in the role of Beetee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' worldwide smash hit novel "Catching Fire." Hailing from District 3, Beetee earns the nickname "Volts" because of his electronics expertise.

Critically acclaimed and known to theater, film and television audiences alike, Wright garnered a Tony Award in 1994 for his work in Tony Kushner's Pulitzer Prize-winning epic Angels in America and reprised his Angels role in HBO's 2003 mini-series adaptation of the play, earning both a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his groundbreaking performance. Since then he has played memorable roles in films as diverse as Basquiat, Source Code, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, W., Syriana and Cadillac Records. Wright can next be seen with Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Allen Hughes' political thriller Broken City.

‘Source Code’ Clip Featuring Jake Gyllenhaal
