Evil Dead star Jessica Lucas has signed on to star in Pompeii for Summit Entertainment and director Paul W.S. Anderson.

The story, set just days before the historic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., centers on Milo (Kit Harington), who must race to save his true love Flavia (Emily Browning). Jessica Lucas is playing a slave and confidante to Flavia. Jared Harris, Kiefer Sutherland, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje also star.

Many cried foul (and other obscenities) when it was announced that Sam Raimi's 1981 classic The Evil Dead was getting the remake treatment. The tide has certainly turned the other way, with a spate of favorable reviews for Evil Dead, a film that many are calling the most frightening movie of the year. Jane Levy stars as Mia, who heads up to a remote cabin with her friends David (Shiloh Fernandez), Olivia (Jessica Lucas), Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci), and Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore) for a weekend getaway in director Fede Alvarez's thriller. Their trip takes a drastic turn for the worse when the Book of the Dead is read from, causing an evil presence to possess and haunt them to their very core. ‘Evil Dead’ 'Olivia' Clip

A new clip from Evil Dead offers a taste of how gory and gruesome this horror remake from director Fede Alvarez can get. In what is a continuation from an earlier clip, Lou Taylor Pucci takes a beating in the bathroom at the hands of Jessica Lucas after their cabin in the woods becomes possessed by an evil spirit set loose from the book of the dead. ‘The Evil Dead’ Remake Gets Jessica Lucas

Jessica Lucas, who starred in the CW remake series Melrose Place, has joined the cast of The Evil Dead remake for FilmDistrict and director Federico Alvarez. Newcomer Elizabeth Blackmore has also signed on.

The story centers on a group of friends who spend the weekend in a remote cabin, only to unwittingly unleash an evil force after reading from The Book of the Dead. We reported last month that Suburgatory star Jane Levy will play the female lead Mia, who goes on the trip to try and kick her drug addiction. Jessica Lucas will play Mia's best friend, who is also a nurse. Shiloh Fernandez and Lou Taylor Pucci have already signed on for the remake. Elizabeth Blackmore will play Shiloh Fernandez's fiancee.

‘The Avengers’ Wants Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill

Samuel L. Jackson revealed last week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon that his Nick Fury character would be getting a female sidekick in The Avengers. Soon after, it was revealed that Jessica Lucas, Cobie Smulders, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead were all auditioning for this unspecified character, with V's Morena Baccarin apparently in the lead.

Today, it has been announced that How I Met Your Mother's Cobie Smulders is now the top contender, and that Marvel Studios is close to signing the actress as Samuel L. Jackson's sidekick. The character is actually S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, and a deal could be done before the weekend is out.

‘The Avengers’ Wants Morena Baccarin for Nick Fury's Sidekick

We just reported that Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury will have a female sidekick in The Avengers. Now a list of contenders for that role has been released, which includes top contender Morena Baccarin (V) as well as Jessica Lucas (Melrose Place), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother), and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World).

Marvel is holding screen tests for the role this Friday. Jessica Lucas, Cobie Smulders, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are still negotiating their test deals, which includes a nine-picture option for whoever lands the role.
