‘Tron 3’ Gets ‘Tron: Legacy’ Director Joseph Kosinski

Yesterday, it was widely reported that Tron 3 was moving forward, with shooting set to begin in Vancouver this fall. Now it is being confirmed that Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will also helm this follow-up. At this time, Garrett Hedlund, who played Sam Flynn, son of Jeff Bridges's Kevin Flynn, is the only actor said to be returning.

While it is now confirmed that Tron 3 will start shooting sometime in October, Disney has not yet officially green lit the second sequel to the 1982 cult hit Tron. It is said that studio operators in Vancouver are competing to land the production. No booking has been confirmed. Vancouver will also host another sci-fi tentpole sequel this year, with Star Trek 3 shooting sometime this spring.

‘Gran Turismo’ Video Game Movie Eyes ‘Tron 2’ Director

Alex Tse (Watchmen) wrote an early draft of the Gran Turismo screenplay. Back in 2013, when Alex Tse was writing the script, Kazunori Yamauchi, the lead designer on the Gran Turismo video games, said the movie plot will follow a video game player who turns into a racer. However, since Sony and Joseph Kosinski are working on a new script, it seems unlikely this plot element will be kept in place.

Josh Bratman, DeVon Franklin and Elizabeth Cantillon are producing alongside Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti. Mike De Luca, who now serves as Columbia Pictures co-president, is also overseeing the project with Matt Millam. No production schedule was given at this time.

‘Trials of White Boy Rick’ Lands ‘Oblivion’ Director

After directing big-budget sci-fi movies such as Tron: Legacy and Oblivion, director Joseph Kosinski is taking on a much smaller project, the adaptation The Trials of White Boy Rick for Universal Pictures.

The plot is based on the Atavist article of the same name written by journalist Evan Hughes, which chronicles the life of Rick Wershe, a teenager living in Detroit in the 1980s. He became a notable cocaine trafficker in the predominantly African-American East Side of Detroit, which earned him the nickname "White Boy Rick." While he was rising through the ranks of Detroit drug dealers, Rick was also working as an undercover informant for the FBI and DEA. The story was first published on The Atatvist website on September 29.

Baime's book Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, And Their Battle For Speed And Glory At Le Mans, which followed Ford's decision to challenge Ferrari's dominance at the 24-hour LeMans race. The Ford team lead by Henry Ford II, Lee Iacocca and Carroll Shelby developed the Ford GT40 in 1966, which became the first American-made sports car to win LeMans. The car went on to win the next four LeMans races.
