Kevin Spacey Joins J.D. Salinger Biopic ‘Rebel in the Rye’

Months after Nicholas Hoult signed on to play reclusive author J.D. Salinger in the new biopic entitled Rebel in the Rye, the rest of the cast is starting to come together. Deadline reports that Kevin Spacey has signed on to play Whit Burnett, a professor at Columbia University and editor of Story Magazine. He became an early mentor to the writer and became the first to truly challenge him and broaden his horizons as a storyteller.

Nicholas Hoult boarded the project in August, but aside from Kevin Spacey's role, it isn't known how many other characters have yet to be cast. Rebel in the Rye takes us on a journey into the life and mind of the legendary and secretive author and tells the story of the birth of The Catcher in the Rye. As the author who captivated a generation, J.D. Salinger soared to the heights of the literary world but left it all behind for a life of seclusion.

‘Elvis & Nixon’ Trailer: Shannon & Spacey Become Legends

For decades, the most requested photo from the National Archives is an image featuring a meeting between music icon Elvis Presley and President Richard Nixon in 1970. The story of this iconic meeting has finally made it to the big screen in the new movie Elvis & Nixon, with IMDB revealing the first trailer. The trailer debut is especially significant, since today is Elvis Presley's birthday.

Elvis & Nixon tells the story about Elvis Presley (Michael Shannon) visiting President Richard Nixon (Kevin Spacey) at the White House in December of 1970. The meeting was initiated by Presley, who wrote Nixon a six-page letter requesting a visit and suggesting that he be made a 'Federal Agent-at-Large' in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. Presley brought with him family photos and a Colt 45 pistol as a personal gift to the President.

First Look at Shannon and Spacey as ‘Elvis & Nixon’

One of the stranger true-life tales coming to the big screen this year is the fateful meeting between a standing U.S. president and a rock icon both in the twilight of their lives. Courtesy of Bloom and Autumn Pictures, we have the first image from Elvis & Nixon, which finds Michael Shannon taking on the King of Rock while Kevin Spacey plays a disgraced leader quite unlike the POTUS he portrays on House of Cards.

This first-look image of Spacey as Richard Nixon and Shannon as Elvis Presley, from Liza Johnson's comedy, finds the two famous figureheads meeting in the Oval Office. Currently in production, the never been told story re-creates an intimate encounter between two men at the height of their powers. Cassian Elwes and Holly Wiersma are producing with Autumn Pictures' David Hansen and Johnny Mac financing and executive producing alongside Byron Wetzel, Robert Ogden Barnum and Jerry Schilling.

Kevin Spacey Takes on Role as a Cat in ‘Nine Lives’

Daniel Antoniazzi and Ben Shiffrin wrote the screenplay, with EuropaCorp producing and providing financing for the project. Nine Lives will be one of the first projects to be developed through EuropaCorp's Red distribution pipeline, a joint venture with Relativity Media. Red's first projects include The Transporter Legacy, arriving in theaters this June, followed by director Steven Quale's The Lake and Shut In starring Naomi Watts.

EuropaCorp's U.S. film president Lisa Ellzey will oversee the project, although it isn't known when production will begin, or if there are any producers attached at this time. Kevin Spacey is currently shooting Elvis & Nixon, where he portrays President Richard Nixon alongside Michael Shannon as Elvis Presley. He most recently starred in the comedy sequel Horrible Bosses 2 and reprises his role as Francis Underwood in Season 3 of House of Cards, debuting next month on Netflix.
