Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes has mastered the art of remaking contemporary classic horror films into modern blockbusters for the next generation. Beginning in 2003 with their re-imagining of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre the company has continued to make one hit after another out of contemporary horror classics including The Amityville Horror, The Hitcher and Friday the 13th. So of course it was only a matter of time before Platinum Dunes would decide to take a stroll down Elm Street and resurrect one of the most famous movie villains of all time ... Freddy Krueger, in A Nightmare On Elm Street, opening April 30th. Slipping into the razor sharp glove made famous by Robert Englund this time is Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley, who was last seen playing anti-hero Rorschach in the film Watchmen, based on the beloved graphic novel. This time around actress Rooney Mara (Dare) plays the iconic role of Nancy Thompson, the focus of Freddy's attentions, and actors Kyle Gallner (The Haunting In Connecticut) and Thomas Dekker (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) round out the cast as fellow teenagers who's dreams are being haunted by the striped sweater wearing villain. We recently had an opportunity to sit down with the cast of the new movie including Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner and Thomas Dekker, as well as the film's director Samuel Bayer to discuss the new movie, it's dark tone, the differences from the original, re-imagining a classic and resurrecting Freddy. To watch our exclusive interview please click on the video clip below.
In the new remake of the classic 1984 horror film A Nightmare On Elm Street, Nancy (Mara), Kris (Katie Cassidy), Quentin (Gallner), Jesse (Dekker) and Dean (Kellan Lutz) all live on the same street ... Elm Street. At night, they're all having the same dream, of the same man, wearing a tattered red and green striped sweater, a beaten fedora half-concealing a disfigured face and a gardener's glove with knives for fingers. And they're all hearing the same frightening voice. One by one, he terrorizes them within the curved walls of their dreams, where the rules are his, and the only way out is to wake up. But when one of their number dies a violent death, they soon realize that what happens in their dreams happens for real, and the only way to stay alive is to stay awake. Turning to each other, the four surviving friends try to uncover how they became part of this dark fairytale, hunted by this dark man. Functioning on little to no sleep, they struggle to understand why them, why now, and what their parents aren't telling them. Buried in their past is a debt that has just come due, and to save themselves, they will have to plunge themselves into the mind of the most twisted nightmare of all... Freddy Krueger (Haley).Read More
