First Look at Bella Thorne and Mae Whitman in ‘The DUFF’

Lionsgate and CBS Films announced a multi-year distribution partnership this morning, which will begin with the 2015 release of the teen comedy The DUFF. Along with the press release, they have debuted a first look at the cast, which features Disney superstar Bella Thorne and Parenthood favorite Mae Whitman.

The high school comedy The DUFF is based on the bestselling novel by Kody Keplinger and is directed by Ari Sandel from a screenplay by Josh Cagan.  McG, Mary Viola and Susan Cartsonis produced The DUFF with Lane Bishop serving as executive producer.

‘Parenthood’ Star Mae Whitman Joins ‘The D.U.F.F.’

Nearly four years after producer McG optioned the book in 2010, his adaptation of The D.U.F.F. is moving forward, with Mae Whitman in talks to star.

The project is based on Kody Keplinger's book, which follows a 17-year-old girl (Mae Whitman) who must deal with the stigma of becoming the Designated Ugly Fat Friend (The D.U.F.F.) in her group of friends. She teams up with other D.U.F.F.'s to take down their school's nefarious leader, Madison.
