Naomie Harris Joins Jake Gyllenhaal in Boxing Drama ‘Southpaw’

Naomie Harris has signed on to star in the DreamWorks boxing drama Southpaw, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker and Rachel McAdams.

The story centers on a boxer (Jake Gyllenhaal) who fights his way to the top and wins the welterweight title, but his life is shattered by a tragedy shortly thereafter, as he tries to earn his young daughter's respect. Naomie Harris is playing a social worker who works with the fighter and his daughter.

Idris Elba Set for ‘Long Walk to Freedom’

Actor Idris Elba is set to play South African leader Nelson Mandela in the biopic Long Walk to Freedom, with Naomie Harris in talks to portray Nelson Mandela's wife, Winnie Mandela.

Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) is in negotiations to direct Long Walk to Freedom, from a screenplay by William Nicholson (Les Miserables). Anant Singh is producing alongside David M. Thompson.

Actress Naomie Harris confirmed she has been offered a role in James Bond 23, which is being prepped for a November production start. However, the actress would not say which role she was offered, or if she has accepted the offer yet.

‘The Dark Tower’ Eyeing Naomie Harris as Susannah Dean

While Javier Bardem and Viggo Mortensen are both in the running to play the lead character Roland Deschain in Ron Howard's sprawling film and TV adaptation of The Dark Tower, we haven't heard any more about the casting of this massive project. Now word is that Pirates of the Caribbean favorite Naomie Harris is the front runner to play the female lead.

Harris will portray Susannah Dean, whose backstory needs at least two movies to tell properly. Her full name is Susannah Odetta Holmes Dean, but she also goes by the names Odetta Holmes and Detta Walker. She is a wheelchair-bound amputee who suffers from multiple-personality disorder and becomes a member of Deschain's group known as the Ka-tet. Though she doesn't appear until the second book, she is a major character throughout rest of the series.
