‘Zombieland’ Writers Take on ‘Watch Dogs’ Video Game Adaptation

Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have signed on to write the Watch Dogs video game adaptation for Sony Pictures and New Regency.

We first reported on the project back in August, when both Sony and New Regency teamed up with Ubisoft to produce this adaptation based on the wildly popular open-world video game, which will be released May 27 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC formats.

‘Epsilon’ Lands at Sony Pictures

Zombieland and G.I. Joe Retaliation writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have sold their spec screenplay Epsilon to Sony Pictures.

The story is set in a future where a robot uprising failed, causing the remaining machines to take refuge on a space station where they use humans as their guinea pigs. The plot focuses on a man who comes to realize he is more human than he once thought. The script was described as "ambitious" by one anonymous studio executive.

‘Micronauts’ Get Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick

Paramount Pictures has hired screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to draft Micronauts for producer J.J. Abrams.

We first reported on this project nearly two years ago, when J.J. Abrams came aboard to produce. Micronauts were known as MicroMen when they were first launched by the Japanese toy company Takara in 1974. The Micronauts also appeared in a Marvel comic book series in 1979. It isn't known if Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will base the Micronauts movie off the comic book series or not.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to Direct ‘Doc and Howie’

Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have signed onto direct the upcoming pitch-black comedy Doc and Howie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Montecito Pictures is producing, and the movie will likely be distributed by Paramount Pictures, through whom they have a first-look deal with.

Originally titled Doc and Howie Whack a Granny, Steve Leff's script landed on last year's coveted Black List. The story, which is being likened to Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, centers on two hipster do-nothings who accidentally kill an old lady when they refuse to help her carry groceries up a long flight of stairs. The death puts the two in direct contact with the elderly woman's attractive granddaughters. When these two sexy women begin to show an interest in Doc and Howie, the pair struggle with telling them what they did and did not do in helping along the death of their dearly departed grandmother.

Disney Acquires ‘Cowboy Ninja Viking’

Variety is reporting that Disney has picked up the rights to the Image Comics property Cowboy Ninja Vikings.

Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will adapt the comic book, which centers on Dr. Sebastian Ghislain, who recruits multiple-personality patients into a counter-intelligence outfit dubbed The Triplets. The Triplets become out of control and the deadliest triplet, Cowboy Ninja Viking is called in to take out the clan.
