‘Magnificent Seven’ Gets Peter Sarsgaard as the Villain

MGM's The Magnificent Seven has added one cast member, while losing another. Peter Sarsgaard is in final negotiations to portray the main villain in the Western remake, while Jason Momoa has dropped out of a different villainous role, described earlier this month as "one of the main heavies." MGM is denying that Jason Momoa has parted ways with the project, but insiders claim that he walked away because he didn't have enough to do or say in the movie. There is no word on who his replacement may be quite yet.

The story centers on a woman (Haley Bennett) who hires seven gunmen to protect her small town from the main villain, a "robber baron" named Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard). We reported last week that Matthew Bomer is playing the woman's husband, who, according to this new report, is killed by Bogue and his thugs, leading to his wife hiring The Magnificent Seven. The all-star cast includes Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Luke Grimes, Wagner Moura and Byung-hun Lee, but no details have been released regarding their characters.
