Early in the month of February, Sony announced that Co-Chairman of SPE and Chairman of the Sony Motion Picture Group Amy Pascal was stepping down from her post to concentrate on producing. At the time, some of the projects sitting under Pascal were called into question, namely the Spider-Man reboot, which we now know is set for release in 2017 after the character first appears in Captain America: Civil War, and the next two chapters in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo saga, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. While it seemed like a sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo might eventually happen someday, star Rooney Mara, who took on the iconic role of literary character Lisbeth Salander in the first movie, now claims the project is probably dead.

Just a few weeks after writer Gary Whitta completed his first draft of the Untitled Gareth Edwards Directed Star Wars Spin-Off, the project is now shifting into casting mode, with actresses such as Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Rooney Mara (Pan) and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) all currently in contention for the female lead. Tatiana Maslany has already read for the role, with Rooney Mara slated to test later this week along with "a handful of others." Felicity Jones is said to be on the studio's "want list," but there may be complications with her commitments to director Ron Howard's Inferno.
Insiders claim that testing for the female lead already took place in the U.K. last month, but the casting has now shifted to the U.S. The U.K. casting session makes sense, since we reported in June that the project will be shot in London, although it isn't clear if there are currently any front runners for the role. Naturally, no story or character details have been revealed, although an unconfirmed rumor surfaced last month that the plot follows a group of space pirates, centering on a young Han Solo, and earlier rumors claimed the plot focused on the bounty hunter Boba Fett.Read More
