Rosemarie DeWitt has signed on to play the female lead in MGM and Fox 2000's horror remake Poltergeist. The search for a male lead is currently under way.
We first reported on the project back in February 2011, when MGM announced a spate of potential remakes and other projects, after the studio came out of bankruptcy. Back in March, we reported that Monster House filmmaker Gil Kenan is directing, from a screenplay provided by David Lindsay-Abaire (Oz: The Great and Powerful, Rise of the Guardians). No story details have been given for the remake, which is being produced by Sam Raimi and Nathan Kahane.Read More
Rosemarie DeWitt is in negotiations to play the female lead in Kill the Messenger, alongside Jeremy Renner.
The project is based on the true story of Gary Webb, a San Jose Mercury News reporter who helped expose the CIA's involvement in a drug smuggling operation with Nicarauguan rebels in the 1980s. In an effort to discredit the writer, the agency launched a smear campaign before the journalist took his own life. No details were given for Rosemarie DeWitt's character. We reported earlier this week that Paz Vega is playing the girlfriend of a drug dealer, who seeks Gary's help in getting him out of jail.Read More

Promised Land is the new contemporary drama directed by Gus Van Sant. Matt Damon plays Steve Butler, an ace corporate salesman who is sent along with his partner, Sue Thomason (Frances McDormand), to close a key rural town in his company's expansion plans. With the town having been hit hard by the economic decline of recent years, the two outsiders see the local citizens as likely to accept their company's offer, for drilling rights to their properties, as much-needed relief. What seems like an easy job for the duo becomes complicated by the objection of a respected schoolteacher (Hal Holbrook) with support from a grassroots campaign led by another man (John Krasinski), as well as the interest of a local woman (Rosemarie DeWitt). Promised Land explores America at the crossroads where big business and the strength of small-town community converge.Read More
