USA Network announced a pilot pick-up for the hour-long scripted drama Shooter and has locked in Ryan Phillippe (Secrets & Lies) to star. Shooter is based on the best-selling Bob Lee Swagger novel by Stephen Hunter, Point of Impact, and the 2007 Paramount film starring Mark Wahlberg. The co-production with Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions comes from executive producers Mark Wahlberg (Boardwalk Empire, Entourage) of Closest to the Hole Productions; Stephen Levinson (Boardwalk Empire, Ballers) of Leverage Entertainment; and Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, The Real O'Neals). John Hlavin (The Shield) wrote the pilot and will also executive produce. Simon Cellan Jones (Ballers) is set to direct the pilot.
Ryan Phillippe is a producer on the project and will star as Bob Lee Swagger, an off-the-grid former Marine sniper who is coaxed into action to thwart the killing of the President. Ultimately double-crossed and framed for the attempt, he must call upon all the skills he acquired as a decorated Marine sharpshooter to avoid capture while hunting down and exposing the traitors who set him up. Shooter is an action series whose central elements are the ingenuity and courage of a U.S. veteran and the military training and background that sustain him as he fights a sophisticated conspiracy.Read More
When Marvel first announced their TV show line-up with Netflix, it was stated that the studio and streaming service would debut all four shows in 2015, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. While Marvel's Daredevil is already streaming its first season with a second season to debut next April, and Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones is currently in production and set to debut towards the end of this year, Marvel's Luke Cage, which has Mike Colter as the title character, won't hit until 2016. The only project that we haven't heard anything about yet is Marvel's Iron Fist, but that may change soon, as it will also likely arrive next year. Actor Ryan Phillippe appeared on Howard Stern's radio show this morning, where he revealed that he is in talks with Marvel for one of their Netflix TV shows. And it's quite possible that he is wanted for the lead in Marvel's Iron Fist.
Of course, it's also completely possible that Ryan Phillippe is in talks for a supporting role in Marvel's Luke Cage, or for a new role in Marvel's Daredevil Season 2, such as the iconic villain Bullseye. Still, Marvel's Iron Fist is the only show that hasn't cast its title character, so it would make sense that the studio is casting for this project before they start working on Marvel's Daredevil Season 2. There have also been recent rumors of The Punisher being developed as a Netflix TV show, but nothing has been confirmed by the studio or the streaming service on that topic yet. Ryan Phillippe's admission doesn't give us much to go on, so, for now, it's anybody's guess, but hopefully we'll hear something official very soon.Read More
