Sam Worthington and Robin Wright have signed on to star in Universal Pictures' Everest, joining a growing cast that includes Josh Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Hawkes, Jason Clarke and Emily Watson.
This drama based on a true story follows a 1996 expedition to the top of Mount Everest, where three separate groups were hit by a sudden storm, which claimed the lives of eight climbers. Part of this story was already told in Jon Krakauer's book Into the Wild, which was adapted into the 2007 feature starring Emile Hirsch. Back in August, we reported that Avatar director James Cameron hired Josh Friedman to write Avatar 2, with Shane Salerno (Savages) and the Rise of the Planet of the Apes writing team of Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver writing Avatar 3 and Avatar 4.

Sam Worthington, Jim Sturgess and Ryan Kwanten have signed on to star alongside Anthony Hopkins in Kidnapping Freddy Heineken.
The plot is based on the true story of Dutch beer mogul Alfred "Freddy" Heineken (Anthony Hopkins), who was kidnapped along with his driver Ab Doderer in 1983. They were both released after the ransom of a whopping 35 Dutch guilders was paid, which is the equivalent of $50 million today. The abductors were eventually caught and prosecuted. Sam Worthington is in early talks to star in the Open Road Films thriller Ten, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Avatar star plans on accepting the offer, if his representatives can work out the financial details.

Freedom Films CEO, Brian Presley is proud to announce the closing of a substantial domestic P&A financing arrangement days prior to Cannes for the CG 3-D action thriller Thunder Run. The film will be co-financed by Brian Presley's Freedom Films and CEO Fred Malmburg's company, Paradox Entertainment with Gerard Butler, Sam Worthington and Matthew McConaughey starring. Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park International is handling sales at Cannes during the upcoming Marche du Film.
