‘Blob’ Remake Gets ‘Expendables 2’ Director Simon West

The Blob remake, which was at one time set to be directed by Rob Zombie, has once again crawled out of the earth's soil and is moving forward with director Simon West. He is best known for Con Air and The Expendables 2, and has Wild Card starring Jason Statham opening later this month.

Goldcrest Films will produce this update of the 1958 horror classic, with shooting set to begin this summer. Korea's Taewon Entertainment and A-List Corporation will co-finance alongside Goldcrest, with Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten producing.

Simon West to Direct the ‘Heat’ Remake

The Expendables 2 director Simon West has signed on to direct the Heat remake for Sierra/Affinity. Brian De Palma was originally attached to direct before bowing out.

We first reported on the project back in February, when Jason Statham signed on to star. The original Heat, released in 1987, starred Burt Reynolds as an enforcer who takes on protection jobs to support his burgeoning gambling addiction. The plot thickens when his friend is badly beaten by the mob, and he vows to take on the mafia organization.

‘Thunder Run’ Moves Forward with Gerard Butler and Matthew McConaughey

Freedom Films CEO, Brian Presley is proud to announce the closing of a substantial domestic P&A financing arrangement days prior to Cannes for the CG 3-D action thriller Thunder Run. The film will be co-financed by Brian Presley's Freedom Films and CEO Fred Malmburg's company, Paradox Entertainment with Gerard Butler, Sam Worthington and Matthew McConaughey starring. Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park International is handling sales at Cannes during the upcoming Marche du Film.

VFX production has already begun on the CG 3-D film with principal photography set to begin this Summer. Brian Presley is producing alongside Jib Polhemus of The Graphic Film Company, with Simon West directing.

Simon West in Talks to Direct ‘Dust and Glory’

Currently shooting The Expendables 2, director Simon West is now in negotiations to direct the car racing movie Dust and Glory, independently produced by Top Cat Media and Blue Star Entertainment.

Based on a novel by Evan Green, the romance adventure project is set during the 1950s' Redex trials, which covered more than 10,000 miles of some of the toughest racing terrain in Australia, if not the world. Described as being a cross between Mad Max and The Jewel of the Nile, the Robert Lewis Galinsky-written script follows the rivalry between an American hotshot and an Australian legend.

After careful consideration and an intensive search to find the right guy, it looks like The Mechanic's Simon West will be directing the much-anticipated sequel The Expendables 2.

The original, which was a box office smash in the late summer of 2010, was written and directed by star Sylvester Stallone. This time out, Sly has decided to hand off the directorial duties to someone he can trust, to focus himself on the more intense, physical aspects his on-screen role demands. The actor will also be overseeing the project as a producer, and will have a lot of say in the way the action scenes are choreographed. Make no mistake, this will still very much be a Sylvester Stallone film.
