After a lackluster year at the box office, 2016 is shaping up to be quite huge for Warner Bros., as they launch their DC Comics Extended Universe (DCEU) with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 25, 2016) and Suicide Squad (August 5, 2016). We have only seen one trailer for Suicide Squad so far, but it is already shaping up to be one of next year's most highly-anticipated movies. As many fans know, this villainous team almost turned out a bit differently, since Tom Hardy was originally set to play Rick Flagg.
His character, John Fitzgerald, is the primary antagonist in The Revenant, who leaves Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) for dead after he was brutally attacked by a bear. It seems that the actor transferred his anger over losing the Suicide Squad to his nefarious character John Fitzgerald. There had been rumors that Tom Hardy left Suicide Squad because he was unhappy with the direction of his character, but the actor shot down that rumor in May, saying he was "gutted" to lose that role.Read More
Hugh Jackman made waves on the Internet yesterday when he mentioned Tom Hardy as a possible replacement for indestructible mutant Logan after Hugh's done with the character following Wolverine 3. A lot of fans believe that Hugh Jackman is irreplaceable as Wolverine. But that has never stopped Hollywood from rebooting one of its more popular characters. Audiences are growing accustomed to seeing new actors step into iconic roles. And if the casting right, fans may even embrace a new Logan. But should it be Tom Hardy?Read More
Tom Hardy has signed on to star in the Vertigo Comics adaptation 100 Bullets for New Line Cinema, according to a report from Heat Vision Blog. This project will be the first for New Line since taking over the adaptations of DC Comics' Vertigo imprint. The adaptation is already far into development, with Christopher Borrelli (The Vatican Tapes) writing the screenplay.
The original comic book, created by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso, centers on a special agent named Graves, who has a bizarre way of helping people. He approaches them with a picture of the person who ruined their lives, a gun, and 100 Bullets of ammunition that cannot be traced. The comic book series ran for, appropriately, 100 issues, between 1999 and 2009. No specific details were given regarding the adaptation's plot, but it is expected to stay true to the comics.Read More
Tom Hardy is no stranger to the DC Comics universe, having played Bane in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises, and he was almost set to play Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad before he dropped out. As it turns out, the actor is developing a mysterious new project with both Warner Bros. and DC, which incorporates a number of different comic and non-comic elements, although he wouldn't specifically say what the project is. Here's what he had to say about this secret movie/tv show:"I actually got something cooking with Warner Bros. which is also a comic book, it's a DC thing which is kind of... It's really good actually, it contains elements of all kinds of stuff. From Ocean's Eleven, to Batman, you can get all the wrappers out and it would be a big, really cool, Technicolor, Pulp Fiction... It's a psychological [frick]fest, it's absolutely awesome. It's as if you would take Transmetropolitan and make it happen, but it's not that out there it's something which is much more real world. It could be like Heat, it could be [frick]ing awesome... try and guess.
It's possible that this project could be taking the same path as The Dark Tower, which was being crafted as a trilogy of movies and a TV show to air between each trilogy installment, but that has not been confirmed. Regardless, whatever this project may be, it does sound like a rather massive undertaking, but it isn't known when we'll hear any official details. Do you have any theories about what this mystery project may be? Chime in with your thoughts below.Read More
