Black Wings Has My Angel is based on a 1953 Gold Medal pulp novel by journalist Elliott Chaze. In the hard-boiled story, an ex-convict stages a daring armored-car robbery in Colorado with the help of a call girl he picked up in a backwoods Mississippi motel. Across the top of the original paperback cover is the classic pulp tagline: "She had the face of a madonna and a heart made of dollar bills."
The film centers on a new residential tower built on the eve of Margaret Thatcher’s rise to power, at the site of what will soon become the world’s financial hub. Designed as a luxurious solution to the problems of the city, it is a world apart.
