‘Pete's Dragon’ Adds ‘Hunger Games’ Star Wes Bentley

The Hunger Games star Wes Bentley has joined the cast of Disney's Pete's Dragon remake. No details were given regarding his character, but he joins a cast that includes Oakes Fegley, Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard and Oona Laurence. David Lowery (Ain't Them Bodies Saints) is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks.

The original Pete's Dragon hit theaters in 1977, a live-action/animation hybrid that followed the adventures of a young New England orphan named Pete (Sean Marshall), who escapes from his abusive adoptive parents and encounters a dragon named Elliot. The duo make their way to Passamaquoddy, Maine, where they find refuge with a lighthouse keeper named Nora (Helen Reddy) and her father Lampie (Mickey Rooney). The remake is said to remove all of the musical elements of the original, setting this new story in a logging village, instead of a fishing village. The story follows Pete, who lives in the forest with his pet dragon Elliot after his parents died in a car accident, although now the forest is threatened by loggers.
