Battleship director Peter Berg is attached to direct Father's Day, based on the book by his cousin, Friday Night Lights author Buzz Bissinger.

The book is a departure for the writer, whose work is predominantly set within the world of sports. This non-fiction tome revolves around one of his twin sons, Zach, who has been stricken with mental disabilities since his premature birth. The story follows the author and his 24-year-old son, as they embark on a summer-long road trip, which helps the father better understand his child.

Universal Pictures is reportedly circling the project, through their first-look deal with Peter Berg, but no deals have been signed yet. No screenwriter has been set for the adaptation at this time.

Peter Berg directed the adaptation of his cousin's book, Friday Night Lights, in 2004, which paved the way for the popular TV series Friday Night Lights in 2006.
