Called the Pinewood Indomina Studios, this new franchise will be up and running within two years' time. Vicini's film distribution firm Indomina Group is financing the project, upon which Dominican Republic president Leonel Antonio Fernandez Reyna broke ground this past Wednesday.
The site will stretch for thirty-five acres, and include a giant water tank for filming exterior ocean scenes. The skyline breaching the tank will offer a natural ocean horizon, and the facility comes with its own diving and marine department.
This move is designed to give Pinewood Studios a global imprint, with Pinewood Indomina Studios following the recent launch of Pinewood Toronto Studios, and Pinewood Malaysia Iskandar Studios, which is coming in 2013.
