Walt Disney Pictures has announced the official release date for Pirates of the Caribbean 5 (sometimes known as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales). It will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 currently has this prime summer real estate all to itself. One week before, on June 30, Universal Pictures will be releasing the anticipated animated sequel Despicable Me 3. And baring the first installment is not a complete flop, The Fantastic Four 2 will open a week later on July 14, from 20th Century Fox. Disney and Marvel Studios also have their Second Untitled Marvel Project 2017 movie opening on July 28.

While no story details have been released, Kon-Tiki directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will be at the helm of Captain Jack Sparrow's latest adventure. The screenplay is from Jeff Nathanson, who wrote Men in Black 3 and Catch Me If You Can.

The last installment in the franchise was 2011's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which sailed to over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. It will be six years between Jack's (Johnny Depp) latest adventures. The combined franchise has pulled in over $3.7 billion globally.
