Last week, fans got their first official look at Elizabeth Banks as the villainous Rita Repulsa in Lionsgate's upcoming Power Rangers movie, which is currently shooting in Vancouver and working towards a March 24, 2017 release date. With production continuing this week, new photos have arrived giving us a closer look at Rita Repulsa in action as she takes to the streets of Vancouver in her unique green costume. We don't see any of the actual Power Rangers on set, so it isn't known what is actually being filmed at this time.

Last month, we got our first look at the main Power Rangers cast, Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G. as Trini the Yellow Ranger and Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger. Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove - and the world - is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late. These new photos of Elizabeth Banks as the villainous Rita Repulsa come from a number of Twitter users on the Vancouver set.

Fans of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series will certainly recognize Rita Repulsa, although this version will be much different. This Rita has a much more reptilian look, and she will also be connected to the Power Rangers in a new way that's completely different from the TV show. There have been rumors that the story will be a continuation of the latest TV series, Power Rangers Dino Charge, and while that hasn't been confirmed, it does present a number of intriguing story possibilities.

In the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, both Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd were pacified by Zordon's energy wave, known as the Z-Wave, but Scorpina wasn't neutralized, promising that she would one day return. There have been rumors that claim the movie's opening scene will feature Scorpina and her army doing battle with the Power Rangers and their robot Megazords. Since this battle will take place several years before the new story picks up, it is believed that these rangers will be the current Power Rangers Dino Charge team, who are tasked with protecting the Morphin Grid, an energy field that provides every generation of Rangers with their powers, and also allows them to access past, present and future Rangers' memories to come up with battle strategies. The Morphin Grid cannot sustain more than two Rangers for very long, which will likely figure into the story somehow.

Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is directing from a script by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, with the movie currently set to go up against 20th Century Fox's A Cure For Wellness, Warner Bros.' Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur and Sony's Life. It isn't known how long principal photography is scheduled to last on Power Rangers, so be sure to stay tuned for more set photos. In the meantime, take a closer look at Elizabeth Banks' Rita Repulsa from Power Rangers below.
