Unfortunately for Predator fans, Benicio Del Toro recently had to drop out of Shane Black's upcoming fourth entry in the franchise. Fortunately, Fox already has a plan to replace the actor. According to a new report, Narcos star Boyd Holbrook is being eyed by the studio to step into the role that Benicio Del Toro was set to take on.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Benicio Del Toro had to depart Predator 4. Shortly thereafter, they reported that Boyd Holbrook would be trying to fill those very big shoes. Benicio Del Toro is clearly a bigger star than Boyd Holbrook, but his star power is rising, having starred in Gone Girl as well as the Netflix hit series Narcos. He will get a real boost next year when the Wolverine movie Logan comes out, which Boyd Holbrook plays the villain in.

Details have been incredibly scarce for The Predator, which Shane Black has been working on for quite some time now. It seemed like things were finally getting some traction when it was announced that Benicio Del Toro was circling the lead role, with Fox even pushing back filming to try and accommodate his schedule. The reason for why he had to exit the project wasn't reported, but his schedule definitely seems to be a problem. He will appear in Star Wars Episode VIII, which may require reshoots and will definitely require a massive press tour. Plus he is supposed to star in the upcoming Sicario sequel, making it difficult to squeeze in The Predator, which will need to start filming soon if Fox intends to stick to their current release date.

Boyd Holbrook has yet to officially sign on for the project, but it seems less likely things would fall through with him. At the current moment, not a single cast member has been confirmed for The Predator, but rumors of James Franco and original franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger joining have bounced around. We don't exactly know who Boyd Holbrook will be playing, but during a Q&A with Empire a few months ago, Shane Black revealed that the hero of the movie would be named Quinn Mackenna, so that is a strong possibility.

Outside of this potential casting news, we know very little about the upcoming Predator sequel. We know it won't be a reboot, that it will be released in IMAX and that the working title during production will be Ollie, which really only raises more questions. A poster was also released back in February which featured the famed alien underneath text that read: "You'll never see him coming." The Predator is currently set for release on February 9, 2018. We will be sure to keep you up to date as more details on the movie become available.
