It's been almost a decade since HBO aired the final episode of Project Greenlight Season 3. In that time, its producers and hosts Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have accomplished quite a lot. Which has allowed them even more introspection into the Hollywood system. So now is the perfect time for their return. Today, HBO has released the first trailer for Project Greenlight Season 4, along with the news that these new episodes will debut this fall.

Yes, all the drama, heartbreak and agony that comes with directing a movie will be back in full force starting September 13. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are back to give another virgin filmmaker the true Hollywood experience. Project Greenlight Season 4 will span the entire filmmaking process, and it promises to get very ugly along the way. It just wouldn't be Project Greenlight otherwise. And that's one of the reasons we haven't seen it in so long.

Project Greenlight takes a revealing, uncensored look at the challenges facing a first-time director. The show kicks off with a digital competition, following the winner from pre-production and casting through principal photography and post-production. Equipped with a Hollywood-vetted script and surrounded by a team of industry professionals, the fledgling director must learn to cope with pressure from the studio and producers, survive on-set politics and lead a veteran cast and crew, all while trying to deliver a viable movie on schedule and on budget. About the show's history, Ben Affleck had this to say.

"Project Greenlight was ahead of its time. Now that technology has caught up to the concept, we thought it was a perfect time to bring it back. A whole new generation of filmmakers has grown up sharing everything, and the next big director could be just an upload away. It is really great having Project Greenlight back at HBO."

Matt Damon was quick to push Ben Affleck out of the way so he could make his own sterling comments about the show's return.

Project Greenlight works. Careers have been launched and sustained as a direct result of this contest. Pete Jones, John Gulager, Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan are just a few of the PGL alums who've gone on to do great things in Hollywood, and Ben and I are really proud of that."

It sure has been a long wait for new Project Greenlight episodes. But that all changes a few Sundays from now, when Project Greenlight Season 4 has its big coming out party on September 13. The show is produced for HBO by Adaptive Studios, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Pearl Street Films, and Miramax Executive producers also include Adaptive's Marc Joubert, TJ Barrack, Perrin Chiles and Marshall Lewy, and Miramax's Zanne Devine.
