‘Prometheus’ R Rating Confirmed by 20th Century Fox

Prometheus will receive an R rating by the MPAABack in March, director Ridley Scott revealed he was aiming for Prometheus to receive an R rating. Today, we have confirmation that his new sci-fi thriller will indeed be rated R. Take a look at the official reason for the R rating below, along with the photo of an advance screening ticket stub, which also confirms the age-restricted rating.

"Prometheus will be rated R for 'sci-fi violence including some intense images, and brief language.'

Our earlier report indicated the movie could possibly be tailored for a PG-13 release, but it seems that isn't the case. Ridley Scott is directing from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof.

Prometheus was released June 8th, 2012.

@mka47 - Yeah but it's 20th Century Fox that we're talking about. They always water down and f*ck with their own movies.

@k-man very passionate, and I'm happy for you...but I still don't give a sh*t about the rating. I was seeing it no matter what.

@k-man Dude, when I saw Avengers in IMAX 3D, and they played the Prometheus trailer, the panels opening on the Prometheus ship at the beginning was so badass. There is no doubt that I will be there, paying premium price, to see it.

Based off the reason it looks like they barely got away with the "R" rating. Can't fking wait for this!

@k-man agreed, this just punched two tickets for me. One in regular, then one in IMAX if the 3D doesn't look like an eyesore.

Yesss!!! Best news in months!!! Good for 20th Century Fox for taking the risk in order to make a better film....BRA-friggin-VO!!!!!

I don't think most people realize what a big deal this is, not just for this movie, but for ALL future films! The studio is taking a huge risk by making a big budget sci-fi film, like this, Rated R. They are not cutting out the good stuff, and therefore not compromising the integrity of the film, just in order to get kids in the seats!

Therefore, every single damn person who visits this site better get their ass to Prometheus in order to support this risk fox is making and support this film...whether you are interested in this movie or not (I'd be amazed if you weren't)! By doing so, you will not only be supporting the best director of all time and im sure the best movie of the year....you will make the studios feel confident about making MORE R-rated sci-fi films. You would also be making them confident about possibly giving several other genres a hard R rating, the way a lot of them SHOULD be but often aren't!!!

So, in summary, If you want more great R-rated films and less that are tailored to fit a kiddie audience.....SUPPORT PROMETHEUS!!!!

I'm seeing it at least 4 times in theaters....guaranteed! 2D first, IMAX 3D, RealD 3D and then 2D for a second time.

@bawnian-dexeus Oh, i see. Well, there will probably be a directors cut or extended cut that has nudity in the movie.

The only 'Alien' movie it needs to live up to is the original. It must surpass the sequels.

@themoviefanatic In regards to R rating. Watching the trailers there were some indications of nudity. So, I was surprised nudity wasn't in the description.

@bawnian-dexeus@ROFLitschristian@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx@ghostman What you all are talking about regarding nudity in Promethous. There will probably be a directors cut or an extended cut of Prometheous released on blu-ray and dvd, when its time for it to be released on blu-ray and dvd later this year.
