Just three months after Universal Pictures brought back The Purge and The Purge: Anarchy director James DeMonaco for The Purge 3, the studio has set a July 1, 2016 release date. After back-to-back movies in 2013 and 2014, fans will be deprived of the annual Purge for another year and a half. The Purge 3 will square off with Steven Spielberg's The BFG and David Yates' Tarzan in its new release date. Universal has also released a brief plot description for The Purge 3, which you can check out below.

"Expanding upon the explosive universe introduced in the sleeper hits that have earned $200 million at the worldwide box office, Universal Pictures' The Purge 3 reveals the next terrifying chapter of 12 hours of anarchy that is sanctioned annually by the New Founders of America."

No cast members have been announced for The Purge 3 at this time, but Blumhouse's Jason Blum will return to produce alongside Sebastien Lemercier and Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Bradley Fuller and Andrew Form. As mentioned in the official synopsis, The Purge and The Purge: Anarchy have earned over $200 million worldwide combined. Those figures are even more impressive when you take into account that The Purge cost just $3 million to produce, and The Purge: Anarchy cost just $9 million. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any updates on The Purge 3 as soon as more information is released.
