Actor Zach Galifianakis has stepped away from the upcoming comic book adaptation R.I.P.D., citing scheduling issues.

Zach Galifianakis was hoping to shoot R.I.P.D. either before or after Southern Rivals, which stars Will Ferrell. Ryan Reynolds is also attached to R.I.P.D., although it is unclear when production will start. Warner Bros. still has an option on Ryan Reynolds and they may want to start work on Green Lantern 2 sooner rather than later. This uncertainty over the start date lead to Zach Galifianakis' departure.

Robert Schwentke (Red) will direct R.I.P.D. from a script by Clash of the Titans writers Matt Manfredi. The story, which is based on Peter M. Lenkov's graphic novel, centers on a police force made up of deceased cops who were killed in the line of duty, and one cop's quest to find the man who killed him.
