‘Red Dawn’ Photo Featuring Chris Hemsworth and Cast

Last Friday, we learned that MGM is eyeing a 2011 release date for its Red Dawn remake, which was shelved indefinitely after the studio went bankrupt. Now, we are seeing a first-ever cast photo from the upcoming Dan Bradley action-thriller which pits a group of high school students against an invading Chinese army. For your first look at the new Wolverines, which include Chris Hemsworth, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Edwin Hodge, Connor Cruise, Josh Peck, and Alyssa Diaz, check out the image below (that background curtain certainly makes MGM look like a studio that has gone bankrupt):

Red Dawn: Movie Pictures #1

Chris Hemsworth and Josh Peck will be portraying brothers Jed and Matt Eckert, roles originated by Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen. Despite the remake drawing concerns from Chinese-Americans for demonizing the Chinese government with its revisionist take on the Cold War, Red Dawn will most likely be released in theaters this year.

Red Dawn was released November 21st, 2012.

      @moviegeek Actually, not really a good point. This is a picture of nine different actors, all with trigger and muzzle direction discipline. Gun safety in fiction is all but unheard-of. I would trust these people with firearms around me more than anyone else I've seen in a movie.

          @Narrator agreed. If the enemy were north koreans, I would understand this film.

              The Narrator

              @Moviegeek, good point.

              My predictions based upon their previous work and the original film itself is that Hemsworth might try and resemble Swayze too much, while Peck, since he's unrelatable to Sheen, does his own thing which might prove good, and then again might not. The rest of the cast looks like they're from 90210 or something of the sort. However, since I can not judge from this picture alone (that would be ridiculous) I will reserve judgement on their acting abilities. I've seen Lucas in Daybreakers and Transformers: RotF, and both of her roles seemed to lack any depth. I hope that changes here. I am honestly looking forward to this film, and I hope it succeeds. If anything their biggest challenges will be:

              1. With this being Bradley's directional debut (he did assistant work on several good films) we have to see is he was able to give this remake a big picture approach.

              2. The cast... will they try and hearken to their original characters too much, or will they simply do something totally new, and will it prove okay to fans and newcomers alike majority speaking, since not everyone's ever pleased).

              3. Politics. Will some folks be okay with such (arguable) relevant references to China being a considerable enemy to the United States.
