Marvel’s Captain America and DC’s Black Adam join forces for the upcoming festive action-adventure flick, Red One. Of course, it won’t be the characters but the actors who team up for the Christmas outing, with new set images from Red One offering our first look at both Evans and Johnson in costume and filming what has been described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.” You can check out the images, which come courtesy of Chris Evans News, below.

While plot details for Red One remain largely under wraps (apart from that tantalizing description above, of course), we can potentially garner some information from these images from filming. While Chris Evans simply looks like a normal, everyday guy, perhaps down on his luck and dreading the holiday season, there is something far more interesting about what Johnson is wearing.

Sporting a red-and-black ensemble that is positively superheroic in its presentation, is it possible that The Rock will play an action-oriented Santa Claus? And if not Santa himself, then maybe someone who works for jolly old Saint Nick, taking on the more explosive duties that come with delivering Christmas to the world? No doubt that such an outcome would ensure that Red One fast becomes a holiday favorite.

Red One will find Johnson working alongside several of his frequent collaborators, with the project being developed from an original story by Seven Bucks Productions’ President of Production, Hiram Garcia. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle director Jake Kasdan will be at the helm of Red One, working from a screenplay by Seven Bucks Productions’ frequent collaborator Chris Morgan who, much like Kasdan, has penned scripts for Johnson before, having worked on such titles as Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, and The Fate of the Furious.

The action-adventure outing has lined up the likes of the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka and Charlie's Angels and Kill Bill star Lucy Liu alongside Johnson and Evans. The rest of the Red One supporting cast will include Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), J. K. Simmons (Whiplash, Spider-Man: No Way Home), Nick Kroll (Don't Worry Darling), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), and Wesley Kimmel (The Book of Boba Fett).

Producer Hiram Garcia has offered further clues as to what audiences can expect from Red One, comparing the movie to the Marvel hit, Guardians of the Galaxy.

"What I can tell you is that it is a very big Christmas movie. We've always wanted to do a Christmas movie, but we didn't want to do the typical Christmas movies that tend to go a little bit broader, I think, in tone,” Garcia explained. “We had been looking for something that matched, the tone and tenor of DJ and what DJ brings to the table, so was able to come up with a really fun Christmas idea, but in tone it's much more of a Hobbs & Shaw, more of Guardians of the Galaxy in tone and vibe because you're dealing with crazy mythological elements, turning a lot of tropes we know about the holidays on their head, but also really big action and globe-trotting"

Red One is scheduled to be released exclusively through streaming via Amazon Prime Video, and is expected to debut during the holiday season of 2023.
