Last week, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter star Milla Jovovich debuted a brief trailer preview on Twitter, announcing that the first full trailer will debut Tuesday, August 9. The actress also revealed she will be hosting a Facebook live Q&A session directly after the trailer's debut at 12 PM PT. To get fans ready for this trailer and Q&A, Milla Jovovich debuted the official poster. We also have a new photo plus details from director Paul W.S. Anderson.

The story follows Alice Abernathy (Milla Jovovich) as she continues her battle against The Umbrella Corporation's hostile AI system The Red Queen (Megan Charpentier) with the help of her friends Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), Leon Scott Kennedy (Johann Urb), Ada Wong (Li Bingbing), and her daughter Becky (Aryanna Engineer), while continuing an uneasy alliance with the former head of Umbrella, Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts). Along the way, they will reconnect with former comrades Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller), Claire Redfield (Ali Larter), and Kmart (Spencer Locke). Their epic battle will lead them back to where it all began in the dark mansion built by Umbrella founder Lord Ozwell E. Spencer and the deep underground research and development center known as The Hive, where The Red Queen plots total destruction over the human race. Entertainment Weekly debuted the new photo, and also spoke with director Paul W.S. Anderson, who revealed that this final chapter almost serves as an origin story.

"[It's] almost like an origin story because we're revealing the truth as to who Alice is."

The director added that fans can expect a "full-circle return to Raccoon City and the Hive," where the first Resident Evil movie started the franchise back in 2002. The first five movies haven't exactly been juggernauts at the domestic box office, with 2010's Resident Evil: Afterlife earning a franchise best $60.1 million. However, they have always fared quite well internationally, with Resident Evil: Afterlife taking in $296.2 million worldwide from a $60 million budget, and the last installment, Resident Evil: Retribution earning $42.3 million domestic and $197.8 million internationally for a global total of $240.1 million, from a $65 million budget.

Game of Thrones star Iain Glen leads the supporting cast as Dr. Alexander Isaacs, alongside Ruby Rose as Abigail, Jun-ki Lee as Lee, Eoin Macken as Doc, William Levy as Christian, Fraser James as Michael and Japanese model Rola as Cobalt. Paul W.S. Anderson directs from his own screenplay and serves as producer alongside Jeremy Bolt, Robert Kulzer and Samuel Hadida. Martin Moszkowicz and Victor Hadida serve as executive producers for this franchise finale.

Sony has set a January 27, 2017 release date for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which puts it up against Warner Bros.' comedy Bastards starring Owen Wilson, Universal's comedy A Dog's Purpose starring Dennis Quaid and Britt Robertson and EuropaCorp's thriller The Lake starring Sullivan Stapleton. The movie will also open a week before XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, Split, The Resurrection of Gavin Stone and the nationwide expansion of The Founder, following its Oscar-qualifying run.
