Production got under way last week on Sony's highly-anticipated Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which will presumably bring this big screen franchise to an end when it hits theaters January 27, 2017. Unfortunately, we have some sad news from Johannesburg, South Africa, with The Sun reporting that stuntwoman/actress Olivia Jackson suffered a horrific accident on the Resident Evil: The Final Chapter set. She has been in an induced coma since Saturday. The stuntwoman suffered head injuries and a punctured lung when a stunt went bad, with Olivia Jackson colliding into a large metal arm. Here's what an unidentified source had to say about the accident.

"It wasn't a very dangerous stunt. She was riding a motorbike in a straight line but due to the scene she had no protective gear or helmet. There is a metal arm which carries the camera along. But it malfunctioned and didn't lift up. It was totally out of her control. She had no chance. She is a lovely lady, the most generous person you could ever meet."

Her husband, David R. Grant, who is also a stunt performer, flew in from filming in Malta to be at his wife's side. They both worked together on the highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which hits theaters December 18. Here's what David R. Grant had to say in a statement on his Facebook page, offering his thanks for all of the messages of support for his wife, revealing that she has been making "steady progress."

"I want to say on behalf of Olivia's family and myself we've been inundated with messages of support for My girl and we are all truly touched. It's goes to show what a special girl she is not just to me but to everyone! I'm sorry for not getting in touch and replying to all the messages in this tough time but I want you all to know that she has been making steady progress and your thoughts and good vibes are all working so please keep them up! She's my inspiration and my world and one tuff little mother f---er! She's fighting hard and the team of people working on Olive have been amazing and have been doing some incredible work. Thanks again to everybody! I whisper to her everyday telling her about the support she's getting world wide!"

South African native Olivia Jackson has racked up an impressive amount of stunt performing credits since her debut in The Burma Conspiracy back in 2011. She doubled for Karen Gillan in last year's superhero movie Guardians of the Galaxy, and served as Gwyneth Paltrow's stunt double on Mortdecai. She also performed in two of the biggest summer movies at the box office, Avengers: Age of Ultron, where she doubled for Elizabeth Olsen, and Mad Max: Fury Road, where she performed stunts for Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
