New Regency and 20th Century Fox have debuted a new trailer for the upcoming film, The Revenant! Academy Award winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu follows up his acclaimed hit Birdman with this rugged real life adventure. The thriller stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Hugh Glass who endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy).

Inspired by true events, The Revenant is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man's epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption. THE REVENANT is directed and co-written by renowned filmmaker, Academy Award® winner Alejandro González Iñárritu, also known for Biutiful and Babel

It will have been nearly two years since we last saw Leonardo DiCaprio on the big screen. His last theatrical performance was in the critical hit The Wolf of Wall Street, directed by Martin Scorsese. The Revenant was shot this past January in Calgary, where the night temperatures average a low of 9 degrees. Alejandro González Iñárritu used only natural light in remote locations that have been left untouched by mankind. About the movie and his leading man, the director called Leonardo DiCaprio an unstoppable force of nature. Alejandro González Iñárritu was often surprised by the depths to which Leonardo DiCaprio went in making this a visceral, real, gritty experience for the audience. All of that naturalism is on display in this latest sneak peek. About the movie and his leading man, the director had this to say.

"[Leonardo] is a brave, incredible actor. I'm so surprised about how good he is. I think there's a profound understanding of humanity that I can see through his eyes. It's a very experimental thing that we're doing here...I'm now addicted to doing things that can fail horribly or maybe that can give us a surprise. We are all into it."

The movie was shot in excruciating subzero temperatures. The entire crew had to endure these extreme conditions all throughout the extra long production. Most of the film was shot outdoors in Canada, and wrapped in the snowy hilltops of Argentina. At one point, a nearby lake froze as the cast and crew watched on. The set flooded with ice water as Alejandro González Iñárritu and his cast struggled to finish their scenes. The moment was compared to having to shoot in a hurricane.

A man devoted to his craft, Leonardo DiCaprio went to some personal extremes in making the time period realistic. A strict vegetarian, the actor forced himself to eat real meat in one scene. Glass must survive by consuming a wild bison liver. And Leonardo DiCaprio did that for real. Of course, it left him sick. Fisk believes the actor vomited directly after these scenes were captured on film. Hopefully that will make the film stand out from the crowd when it arrives this Christmas. We're getting a lot of movies on December 25th. But this looks like one you can't miss. Don't believe us? Just take a look.
