It seems one half of a popular writing team will make his directorial debut with a new action film that has locked in two of its stars. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Richard Gere and Topher Grace have signed on to star in The Double.

The film will mark the directorial debut of screenwriter Michael Brandt, who has written such films as Wanted, 3:10 to Yuma and the upcoming summer film The A-Team with writing partner Derek Haas. Both Brandt and Haas wrote the script, which centers on the murder of a U.S. Senator by a shadowy Russian assassin long thought to be dead. Gere will star as a retired spy who made a career after hunting the Russian assassin, who comes out of retirement and partners up with Grace's character, a young FBI agent.

It was said that the film will start production this June in Detroit.
