Sony Pictures has hired screenwriter John Hlavin to pen their board game adaptation Risk.

We first reported on this project way back in November 2009, when Sony acquired the rights to the Hasbro property. The story is said to be a "global action thriller" based on the game, although little else is known about the script that John Hlavin is now working on.

Risk was created in 1957 by French director Albert Lamorisse under the title 'The Conquest of the World'. The title was changed to Risk in 1959 by Parker Brothers. Risk players battle each other to try and acquire every territory on the world map, while wiping out their opponents at the same time.

John Hlavin wrote Underworld: New Dawn for Screen Gems, which is slated for release on January 20, 2012. John Hlavin was also a writer on the FX police series The Shield.

No production schedule was given for Risk
