Filmmaker Rob Reiner is in negotiations to appear in front of the camera in the Warner Bros. financial drama The Wolf of Wall Street. If a deal is finalized, the director will portray Max Belfort, the father of Leonardo DiCaprio's Jordan Belfort.

The story follows the ups and downs of Jordan Belfort's tumultuous run as a fraudulent stock broker in Long Island. The biopic will also focus on his personal demons, including addictions to drugs and alcohol, before he was locked up on securities fraud charges for 20 months. Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Margot Robbie, and Jon Bernthal also star.

Martin Scorsese is directing from an adapted screenplay by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, based on Belfort's 2008 memoir. Red Granite Films principals Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland are producing alongside Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, and Alexandra Milchan. Production will begin this August in New York City.
