Robert DeNiro Joins Mel Gibson in ‘Edge of Darkness’

Robert DeNiro is set to join Mel Gibson in Martin Campbell's upcoming police drama Edge of Darkness. According to Variety, this will be Gibson's first major role since starring in both Signs and We Were Soldiers back in 2002.

The film will revolve around Gibson's character, a straight arrow homicide detective named Thomas Craven. When his daughter is murdered on the front steps of his home, he believes the hit was meant for him. Craven's investigation leads a path to his daughter's secret life, a corporate cover-up, and the government's own shading dealings. DeNiro is set to play an operative sent in to clean up the mess.

The film begins shooting this month in Massachusetts.

Edge of Darkness was released January 29th, 2010.

Gibson is a great an versitile actor. i just seen payback last night, awsome flick. Deniro will play off well with Gibson, an he needs a redeemer film after that dibocle stardust. although that movie with pachino looks good 2

as much as i dislike Gibson's persona, his acting abilities are undeniable - teamed with those of De Niro and a plot as good as this, this movie will be one that i'm certainly looking forward to

Gibson's "past behavior" has nothing to do with his on-screen performances...or at least they SHOULDN'T. But some people still feel the need to bring it up. He's awesome

"Edge of Darkness" is a big-screen remake of the 1985 BBC miniseries!

I just hope the film, and its performances, can be judged on its own merit and not condemned because of Gibson's past behavior.

Actually, , moviebuff123, I wouldn't mind seeing Mel back as Mad Max either. Ford came back as Indiana. Why can't Mel do it for Max? With the right director and script, it could be possible. I'm glad Mel is doing movies again IN FRONT OF the cameras. And DeNiro starring with him is the icing on the cake.

I loved the Mad Max (Road Warrior) character. He was awesome for the 80's. I wish they'd bring him back... but Mel Gibson's too old for that character.

Wait... I don't know. He's only 52. If Harrison Ford can still play Indiana Jones, why not Mel and Mad Max. Just a thought. I could be talking out of my ass LOL

                              Mel: "I hate jews!"

Robert: "You talkin' to me?!? You talkin' to me?!?"

Mel: "Where's my beer? And where's my car keys?!?

Gibson and De Niro are both terrific actors and to top it off they're going to be in a film together with a good storyline. I'd especially love to see Mel act again. I'm already lovin' it and shooting hasn't even started yet!
