Actor/producer Robert Downey Jr. is teaming up with Warner Bros. to relaunch Perry Mason as a movie franchise. Robert Downey Jr. will produce alongside his wife, Susan Downey, and the project is being set up as a potential starring vehicle for Robert Downey Jr.

Much like the original Erle Stanley Gardner novels, this movie version of Perry Mason will be set in 1930s Los Angeles, and will also feature characters from the novels such as Mason's secretary Della Street, private investigator Paul Drake, and Perry Mason's courtroom rival, Hamilton Burger.

Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey will produce alongside Robert W. Cort. The producers are currently seeking a screenwriter to tackle the material.

The Perry Mason TV series ran from 1957 to 1966.
