Back in July, we reported that Robert Zemeckis had come aboard to direct Here There Be Monsters for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Today we have word that Robert Zemeckis has left the project, and the producers are currently seeking a new director. Here's what producer Todd Lieberman had to say below.

"We're talking about potential directors. Robert is not officially involved any more."

Brian Helgeland is writing the script, based on an original idea from Thomas Tull, who is producing alongside Todd Lieberman. Here's what Todd Lieberman had to say about the story of Here There Be Monsters.

"Brian wrote the script. I haven't worked with him before. He's an A+ top-tier writer and has been for many many years. I'm a huge fan of his and it was wonderful to sit down and meet him. It's an original idea that came from Thomas Tull, who runs Legendary Pictures. It's basically a retelling of the John Paul Jones story but inserting a sea monster into the mix."

John Paul Jones was the famous naval fighter during the Revolutionary War, best known for first uttering the quote, "I have not yet begun to fight!" It isn't known when production will begin on Here There Be Monsters.
