While we've heard some character names bandied about for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we have no confirmation as to whom anyone of the ensemble cast is playing. Today, we have some inside intel on this first Star Wars spinoff, which reportedly gives us a full character profile on the role being played by Forest Whitaker. And he sounds like a very interesting guy.

Suffice it to say, the rest of this story does contain some SPOILERS for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. So read on with caution. At first glance, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story doesn't really fit in with anything else Forest Whitaker has done in his career. He's a more serious actor who doesn't usually gravitate to franchise fare. But perhaps he's arrived here due to the fact that the characters in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are pretty solid, and all a great addition to the longstanding legacy.

MakingStarWars doesn't have the character's name locked down just yet. But this is a man who uses a cane to walk. He is missing one of his legs, and needs a crutch to get around. Some speculate that he may have a robotic limb. Forest Whitaker's character is a veteran of war who has survived many battles.

It isn't clear if he lost his leg in the great Clone War, or if he suffered the loss at the hands of the Empire. It isn't quite clear where the character's alliance stands. He has a different code name from the rest of the Rebels in the movie. It is believed that he stands on the light side of the force, but he is speculated to be a bounty hunter, or affiliated with that gangster life style.

Forest Whitaker will wear a cape in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. His costume is patched together from various different items, and he's described as someone you might see hanging out inside Maz Kanata's Castle bar. The character is described as very visually interesting.

There isn't any further background information given for this role. And he wasn't pictured in the sole official image that has been released thus far. Rogue One is set between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, centering on a group of Rebels who hatch a mission to steal the original Death Star plans. There have been rumors that the iconic villain Darth Vader will have a big role in this story, and there is also speculation that this spinoff will introduce the young Han Solo, before he stars in the second spinoff, Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo.

The cast includes Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn (who is reportedly playing the villain), Alan Tudyk, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Jonathan Aris and Wen Jiang, although little is known about their characters. A rumor recently surfaced that Felicity Jones is playing a Rebel pilot named Lyra Erso, but that has not been confirmed. Mads Mikkelsen's character is rumored to be named Galen, but the studio hasn't released any official details about these roles yet.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will hit theaters on December 16. Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) is directing from a script by Chris Weitz (Cinderella) and Gary Whitta (After Earth). What do you think? Does Forest Whitaker's character sound like a must own action figure?
