Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the British comedy series Rentaghost for a new big screen project starring comedian Russell Brand.

Brand will play Fred Mumford, an underachieving man who recently died and is determined to be more productive in the afterlife. He sets up a temp agency business with other ghost friends, where he rents out ghosts to the living. The project was said to be in the vein of the 1988 comedy Beetlejuice.

The studio is currently seeking writers for the project. Kevin McCormick is producing along with Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun, with Russell Brand serving as executive producer.

The original Rentaghost TV series ran on BBC1 from 1976 to 1984. No production schedule was released for this new Rentaghost movie yet.
