In a story from The LA Times, Russell Crowe has attached himself to play the lead role in a movie version of The Equalizer. Crowe will embody the character of Robert McCall for the big screen.

In the 1980s crime show, McCall was a mysterious agent that was brought to life by late actor Edward Woodward. McCall's background was somewhat of a mystery. At one point he "worked for a top-secret agency, where he did some pretty horrible things" but he eventually found himself helping people every week on the show.

This project was in development for quite some time at the Weinstein Co. It has now being spearheaded by producer Mace Neufeld (The Sum Of All Fears). At present, there is no studio attached, but it is presently being shown around town and the project is garnering interest.

Also, there is no script for this film currently but that shouldn't stop it from eventually being packaged and put together.
