According to Variety, Fox 2000 is in negotiations with Russell Crowe to star in A Good Year, for helmer Ridley Scott.
The thesp would play an investment banker who loses his job and moves to Provence to take over a failing vineyard owned by his just-deceased uncle -- a move complicated by the arrival of an unknown American cousin.
Adapted from Peter Mayle's novel of the same name, script was originally penned by Serendipity scribe Marc Klein and rewritten by Ted Griffin and Jez and Tom Butterworth.
A Good Year is expected to go into pre-production soon; Scott is understood to be already scouting locations in Provence. He is producing under his Fox-based Scott Free shingle.
Overseeing the pic are Fox 2000 topper Elizabeth Gabler and theatrical production exec Rodney Ferrell.
