Russell Crowe is set to make his directorial debut with The Water Diviner.

The film will be set in 1919 and will follow and Australian father that travels to Turkey to locate his two sons. The brothers went missing during the battle of Gallipoli, which was an unsuccessful attempt by the Allied Powers to control the sea route from Europe to Russia during World War I.

Russell Crowe just appeared in Zack Snyder Superman reboot Man of Steel and has considered many project for his directorial debut including Australian stories The Long Green Shore and Bra Boys.

Andrew Knight and Andrew Anastasios wrote the screenplay with Troy Lum, Andrew Mason and Keith Rodger producing. Production is scheduled to begin later this year in Australia and Turkey.
